Palmetto St. Augustine is a St. Augustine variety discovered by Mr. Tobey Wagner and Mr. Elmer Kirkland off the east coast of Florida. Palmetto is not a lab grass or artical hybrid as some St. Augustines are. It is a perennial, vegetatively-propagated grass that has been tested in various climates since the early 1990's.

Palmetto has very distinct features which help it grow in more shadier areas and cooler climates as compared to other St. Augustine varieties. Palmetto has a much shorter leaf as compared to your traditional St. Augustines of bitter blue and florotam. With this shorter leaf Palmetto does not discolor as quickly under cooler conditions and has proven to be a better shade tolerate grass as well.

As with other St. Augustine grasses, Palmetto must be treated for occasional cinch bug as well as leaf spot that may occur during certain times of the year. We feel that with proper preventative care, as we do with all grasses, these problems can be kept to a minimum.

Palmetto St. Augustine grass is licensed by Sod Solutions, Inc. of South Carolina and Craft Turf Farms is one of the 50 registered growers in the United States.
